XM32 Memory
 |
A memory module being fitted into the back of an XM32
|
The memory in the XM32 is in two parts. Internally there is a RAM
memory where all variables are stored. Some are temporary and others
fixed. We call these Housekeeping, where factors, rates and small
tables are stored. The RAM has it's own internal battery to ensure that
data is not lost. Values that are likely to change without notice, such
as VAT rates and Car Tax are usually stored here together with company
specific details like commission rates. These figures may be altered
using varying levels of password control. For example, the Area Manager
may set commission rates for the user whilst VAT and IPT may be set by the
user.
The second memory is the module that is plugged into the back of the
XM32. This has a capacity of up to 1M byte which does not sound
much these days, but thanks to the extremely compact SquareBasic program
code, most of our Clients get all of their products into 128k bytes or
less. The module is erased by Squarezone using ultra violet light and
stored ready for our Client's use. Once a program has been produced or
altered or new data tables have been incorporated, the module is programmed,
eight or sixteen at a time. They are then despatched to our Client for
distribution to their sales force. We also distribute modules
direct to the user where required. |
