Your special requirements
To produce a fully customised computer for you we will need a
specification that includes the following information:-
- Your name and camera ready artwork for the company logo.
- A title for each product to be implemented on the machine.
- A general explanation of the products intended application.
- The required display flow.
- Output displays should be ordered so as to correspond with the layout
of related forms. Inputs often have a dictated order, where
one question cannot be asked until the answer to another is known.
Where the order is not dictated by the application, your preference
should be specified.
- Full details of any data that has to be entered into the unit in order
to calculate a product. Two types of data gathering are commonly
used.
- Questions for selection from a short list of options. These
require an answer of 'Yes' or 'No' from the user. The prompt should
be chosen accordingly and may occupy the whole display.
- Numeric input. Each numeric input requires a specification for
minimum and maximum allowed values, some may also need a specific
precision e.g. to 3 decimal places and step value e.g. periods in months
may only step in sixes. The accompanying prompt should be concise
enough to fit on the same display as the maximum value being input, and
allow for currency signs where required.
- Details of any data tables to be used.
- Details of any data items to be held in a Housekeeping section.
- A few data items that may change relatively frequently i.e. interest
rates, document fees or commission rates and so on, may be held in RAM
with battery back up and changed via keyboard entry by the user or an
administrator, often after entry of a protective password.
- A description of the calculations that are to be applied to the data
with all rounding points specified.
- Details of the data to be output, including a concise descriptive label
field and a precision for the numeric field.
- If a printed document is to be produced then a further specification is
required for its details and layout.
- Any special editing or quote adjustment also needs to be specified.
- The first quote produced will suit your sales aims but may need to be
altered before it becomes acceptable to your customer. Provision of
adjustment facilities such as 'Adjust period? Y/N' or using the '+' and
'-' keys to automatically step to the next higher or lower period may be
required. We can advise on these matters on a case by case basis,
as they improve the capability of the Squarezone as a sales tool and they
can make the difference between a simple tool or a sophisticated,
versatile product.
- Worked examples for functional testing.
- There must be sufficient examples to test all the various options and
forms that a product may comprise. Given the requirements listed above,
we can specify an adequate test set for which you need only supply the
calculated output figures.
- Please supply as much data as possible by electronic means.
